Advising Instructions

YOU are responsible for your academic progress through NKU.  You will have an advisor who will help you, but it is ultimately your responsibility to know the requirements, know the deadlines, and monitor your progress.  To do this, be sure you always have, and frequently refer to, a copy of the NKU catalog in effect when you entered the university.

You have a advisor who will help you plan your academic career, help discuss post-graduation options.  However you need to do your homework before each advising session.
  1. Check your Degree Audit.  It will list the courses you need to take in order to graduate.
  2. Be sure and check to see if your Degree Audit agrees with the catalog in effect when you came to NKU.  The degree audit often only gives information based on the most recent catalog.
  3. Take a look at your requirements.
  4. Take a look at what is being offered next semester  and start to pick some classes.
  5.  You can have options and questions, but have some kind of plan made out ahead of time

Step-By-Step Through the Advising Process:

Prior to your advising session

  1. Schedule a meeting time with your advisor prior to the day and time you can regitster for classes.
  2. Print out your degree audit from MY NKU.  Follow the links from the www.nku.edu home page.  Bring this to the advising session.
  3. Plan your schedule prior to your advising session

Your Advising session

  1. On the day on which you will register, get your file folder from The Theatre and Dance Office.  Bring this to your advising meeting.  You may get your folder right before this meeting-don’t get it the day ahead.
  2. Pick up an advising form which will be completed in your avising session.
  3. Update your completed requirements on the General Studies and Departmental track sheets.
  4. Review the courses you plan to take in the upcoming semester with your advisor.
  5. Return your folder and the advising form to the Theatre and Dance Office.  Your hold will be removed so that you can register.  Scholarship and BFA Students must have a Scholarship and BRF Requirments form signed and on file before your Hold will be removed.  The Main Office has a list of those who have a completed form in their file.
  6. Go online and register for your courses through Norse Express.
  7. And that’s it—you’re registered.
